Technical Monitoring Workshop
December 4-5, 2013

Advance registration is required by Wednesday, November 27, 2013.

Workshop Purpose: This workshop is intended provide a forum for the open exchange of information on the goals for and the design of a comprehensive monitoring plan for (a) establishing the current state of PCB in the Spokane River Watershed and (b) designing activities related to source identification.

In a way that:

  • Allows those involved (i.e. – regulators, academia, and consultants) in PCB water quality in other geographic areas to discuss their activities and provide insights into what they have learned from their efforts in areas applicable to Spokane River issues.
  • Provides input on approaches for the design of a river monitoring plan that identifies sampling locations, sample collection methods, frequency of sampling, analytical methods to be used, and other related data collection and management activities.
  • Provides input on approaches for gathering potential “true” source identification and location information in support of the river monitoring plan.
  • Provides the opportunity for SRRTTF members to have discussions with presenters and among themselves.
  • Provides input to all stakeholders on the development of management options.
  • Provides the opportunity for SRRTTF members to “brainstorm” how learnings can best be used to identify near term and long term actions.

So that all SRRTTF members have the opportunity to provide input and direction for the development of the Task Force’s monitoring plan, conceptual model, source reduction actions, and Comprehensive Plan.

Who Should Attend? Members of the SRRTTF, interested stakeholders, regulatory staff from the Department of Ecology and the US EPA, and consultants/technical experts.

Announcement: Water Quality Program State Fiscal Year 2015 Funding Applicant Training Workshops

This is to notify you that the Department of Ecology’s (Ecology) Water Quality Program has scheduled four training workshops for applicants seeking funding for water quality-related projects during the State Fiscal Year 2015 (SFY15) Funding Cycle. A workshop will be held in each of Ecology’s four regions. The workshops are scheduled for 9:00am – 1:00pm on:

  • October 8 in Spokane Valley at the CenterPlace Regional Event Center.
  • October 9 in Ellensburg at Central Washington University.
  • October 15 in Olympia at the Red Lion Hotel.
  • October 17 in Everett at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Comcast Arena.

Ecology shifted the application period for the SFY15 Funding Cycle by approximately one month due to the implementation of  a new web-based grant and loan management system called, Ecology Administration of Grants and Loans (EAGL). Beginning with the SFY15 Funding Cycle, applications and future funding agreements will be managed through EAGL. The workshops will include training on applying for funding through EAGL. The application period runs from October 1 – December 4, 2013.

Potential applicants will receive a “Save the Date” card in the next few days and a “Final Announcement” with details in mid September.

For more information, contact Daniel Thompson ( or (360) 407-6510.

Ecology invites interested parties to attend a video conference workshop from 1 – 5 p.m., on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Ecology’s regional offices in Lacey,  Bellevue, Yakima and Spokane.  The workshop will provide an in-depth explanation of Ecology’s current approach.

 Workshop topics include updates on:

  • Ecology’s toxic reduction strategy.
  • Toxic Cleanup Program’s sediment management standards rule making.
  • Ecology’s fish consumption rate technical document.
  • Water Quality Program’s water quality standards rule makings.

As part of this revised approach, Ecology’s Water Quality Program intends to move forward with adopting new human health criteria for surface water quality.   An informational session on human health criteria will be included in the workshop.
